St. Louis Gets Festive!!
ST. LOUIS – November 1, 2011 – With several festive and fun events taking prominence on the holiday calendar, the upcoming weeks are going to be a whirlwind of activity in St. Louis.
Lights Will Delight
From 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, the Macy's Holiday Festival of Lights officially kicks off the season at the Citygarden, 2 blocks West of Kiener Plaza in downtown St. Louis. The show has been completely revamped for 2011 with a specially designed headline performance by Circus Flora. The family fun will also include the Grand Center Arts Academy Show Choir, the St. Louis Christmas Carols Association (celebrating their 100 year anniversary) and a surprise appearance by Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (from the live musical at Peabody Opera House). The tree lighting takes place at 6:30 p.m., followed by a stunning fireworks display.
In addition, the Joia Drum Line, Banana Bike Brigade and the Bob Case Brass Band will lead a procession to Macy's for photo opportunities with The Grinch, performances by the Radio Disney Road Crew and holiday treats for all.
Macy’s Holiday Open House
After the lighting of the tree, the fun continues at Macy’s Holiday Open House. Located inside Macy’s Downtown St. Louis, the open house will feature special events on every floor with appearances by Clifford the Big Red Dog, Hello Kitty, and Santa.
A Thanksgiving Day Tradition
Celebrating its 27th year, the 2011 Ameren Missouri Thanksgiving Day Parade will step off at 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, November 24 from the corner of Washington Avenue and Fourth Street in downtown St. Louis.
The parade will be broadcast live on KMOV-TV Channel 4’s “Great Day St. Louis,” which won an Emmy for its coverage of the 2010 parade.
In addition to dozens of magnificent floats and colorful helium balloons, the parade will feature area marching bands and the annual Battle of the Bands Contest. As a Christmas in St. Louis partner, the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission’s (CVC) Holiday Magic team will once again participate in this year’s parade. The Holiday Magic mascot, Snowflake, will also be on hand.
The annual Ameren Missouri Thanksgiving Day Parade is hosted by Christmas in St. Louis along with presenting sponsor Ameren Missouri. The parade charitable recipients are the Academy of St. Louis and the Miriam Foundation.
Magic Time in St. Louis
